Alright, so, I got this wild hair to try and remake that fancy Yves Saint Laurent YSL JUNE BOX BAG, you know, the one you see in those hoity-toity stores. I ain’t no expert on these high-fashion things, but I figured, why the heck not?
First thing’s first, I needed to gather up all my materials. Now, I wasn’t about to drop a fortune on a real one of these bags, so I had to get creative. I hit up a few local craft stores and found some pretty decent leather scraps that looked like they’d do the trick. I also grabbed some sturdy fabric for the lining, a nice-looking buckle, and some thread that matched the leather.
- Leather scraps: Got ’em from a local craft store. Not top-of-the-line, but good enough for this project.
- Lining fabric: Something sturdy and plain. Found a nice piece that wouldn’t clash with the leather.
- Buckle: This was a bit tricky. I wanted something that looked classy but not too flashy. Found one at an antique shop that fit the bill.
- Thread: Got some heavy-duty thread that matched the leather color.
Now, I’ve seen the real YSL June Box Bag in stores a few times, so I had a pretty good idea of what I was aiming for. The shape is pretty simple—it’s basically a box, right? So, I started by cutting out the leather pieces. I made sure to measure everything twice ’cause, you know, measure twice, cut once. That’s what they say.
Sewing the leather was a bit of a pain, I gotta admit. My sewing machine wasn’t too happy about it, but I managed to get it done. I used a simple stitch, nothing fancy. I sewed the sides of the box together, then attached the bottom. It wasn’t perfect, but it was starting to look like a bag!
Next, I worked on the lining. I cut out the fabric pieces and sewed them together, then attached the lining to the inside of the leather bag. This part was actually easier than sewing the leather.
The flap was the next challenge. I cut out a rectangular piece of leather and attached the buckle. Then, I sewed the flap onto the top of the bag. Getting the flap to sit just right took some fiddling, but I finally got it.
Putting It All Together
The last step was adding the strap. I used a long strip of leather and attached it to the sides of the bag with some heavy-duty rivets. And there it was! My very own homemade YSL June Box Bag.
Now, I ain’t gonna lie, it’s not exactly like the ones in the stores. There are a few imperfections here and there, and the leather isn’t quite as fancy. But you know what? I’m pretty darn proud of it. It’s got that vintage, old-timey look, but it’s also kinda modern. I guess you could say it’s the best of both worlds. And the best part? I made it myself. Can’t put a price tag on that.
