Okay, so, let’s talk about this little project I got into. I’ve always been kinda into those fancy designer bags, especially the ones from Yves Saint Laurent. They’re just so… classy, you know? But, man, they’re expensive! So I thought, “Why not try to make one myself?” I decided to try and remake the YSL JUNE BOX BAG, that new one that is so popular.
First off, I went on a hunt for materials. I needed some good leather, and it had to be soft, kinda like lambskin, I guess that is what they use. That part wasn’t too bad, I found a shop that had some nice black leather, and they cut me off the size I needed. It was not that expensive, but it took some time to find some that was just right. I’m pretty sure the real bags use some fancier leather, but hey, this was good enough for me.
The hard part was the sewing. I’m not really a pro with a sewing machine. I messed up a few times, had to rip out the seams and start over. It was frustrating, but I kept at it. I watched a bunch of videos online about how to sew leather, and those helped a bit. It’s not as easy as it looks!

Finding the Logo:
The trickiest thing was that little YSL logo thing. It’s like a little metal piece that flips. I looked everywhere for something like that. Finally, I found this little metal piece at a craft store. It wasn’t exactly the same, but it was close enough. It even flipped like the real one! I had to be super careful attaching it, though. I used some strong glue and clamped it down until it was good and dry.

Putting It All Together:
After a lot of trial and error, I finally got all the pieces sewn together. It wasn’t perfect, but it kinda looked like the real thing! I even managed to quilt the leather, like the real one, to give it that puffy look. That took forever, and my fingers were so sore afterward! I followed some pictures I found of the real bag to get the shape right. It has a flap and that shiny “cassandre” closure, as they call it. I even tried to sew in a lining.
So, here is what I learned, it is way harder than it looks. It took me days to finish, and I made a lot of mistakes along the way. It was a real challenge, but also kind of fun. There is just this great feeling when you create something, you know?
Did I really make a YSL bag?
Now, is my bag as good as a real Yves Saint Laurent bag? Of course not! The real ones are made by people who are really good at this stuff, and they use the best materials, I am sure. Mine is just a homemade version, a little rough around the edges. And the real ones probably last forever. They say those designer bags are built to last. I do not know about mine. Time will tell I guess.
But you know what? I’m pretty proud of it. It’s not perfect, but it’s mine. And it was a lot cheaper than buying a real one from one of those fancy stores! I heard they sell them at some store called Saks OFF 5TH, and they’re cheaper there. I think they said up to 70% off, but that is still too expensive for me. I mean, those bags are just too much. They are just a fad. They will be replaced by another fancy bag next year. That is just how it is. Anyway, I had fun making it, and that’s what matters, right?
