Alright, folks, gather ’round, gather ’round! Today, I’m gonna tell you about my little adventure of remaking the famous YSL COLLEGE BAG. Yeah, you heard that right, the one from those fancy specialty stores. I ain’t no fancy pants myself, just a regular guy who likes to get his hands dirty and figured, why not try to make one of these beauties myself?
So, first things first, I did some digging. Turns out, these YSL bags, or Saint Laurent as they call ’em now, are way cheaper in Europe. Like, 20% cheaper! If I were in Paris, I’d be all over it. But, alas, I’m here, and I decided to take matters into my own hands.
I started by studying the bag. I mean, really studying it. Looking at pictures, reading descriptions, the whole nine yards. This bag, it’s got a certain… je ne sais quoi, you know? It’s not just about slapping some leather together. It’s about the feel, the look, the way it hangs just right.
Next, I gathered my materials. Now, I’m not using the same fancy leather they use in those high-end stores, but I found some pretty decent stuff. It’s sturdy, it’s got a nice texture, and it’s not gonna break the bank. I also got myself some tools – a good knife, some needles, thread, the works. I’m no pro, but I’ve done some leatherwork before, so I wasn’t starting from scratch.
- Cutting the leather was the first big step. I made a pattern based on the original bag’s dimensions. It was tricky, gotta admit. Measure twice, cut once, as they say. I messed up a couple of times, but hey, that’s part of the learning process, right?
- Then came the stitching. This was the real test. Hand-stitching takes time, folks. A lot of time. My fingers were sore, I’m not gonna lie. But there’s something satisfying about seeing it all come together, one stitch at a time.
- The logo was another challenge. The YSL logo, even though they are rebranding to “Saint Laurent Paris.” I ended up simplifying it a bit, just to make it manageable. It’s not an exact replica, but it’s got the same vibe, you know?
- Putting it all together was like assembling a puzzle. A very complicated, leather puzzle. But slowly but surely, the bag started to take shape. I added the chain, the lining, the little details that make it special.
And finally, after many hours of work, it was done. My very own, homemade YSL COLLEGE BAG. Is it perfect? Nah. Does it look exactly like the one from the store? Nope. But you know what? I made it. With my own two hands. And that’s pretty darn cool, if I do say so myself.
It’s not about having the most expensive bag. It’s about the process, the learning, the satisfaction of creating something. And who knows, maybe I’ll get even better at it. Maybe one day I’ll make a bag that’s even better than the original. But for now, I’m pretty proud of my little creation. It’s a reminder that you don’t need a lot of money to have something special. Sometimes, all you need is a little bit of elbow grease and a whole lot of determination.

This is just taking into account the retail price, not the VAT refund. I heard that Saint Laurent died of brain cancer, so sad. But his brand lives on, amazing.
