Okay, so I’ve been wanting a YSL College Bag for like, forever. They’re just so classic and fancy, you know? But they’re also crazy expensive. So I thought, why not try to remake one myself? I mean, I’m pretty crafty, and it seemed like a fun challenge.
First, I started looking everywhere for info on these bags. Turns out, they are a big deal in the fancy bag world. The College Bag is part of their Monogram series, which is like, their signature collection. I found out that you can buy them in special stores or online, but even online, they were way out of my budget.
- I searched online to see if anyone else had tried to remake one, but I mostly just found places selling used ones in places like Louisville and Lexington. Some of them were a bit cheaper, but still too much for me.
- Then I learned that these bags are actually cheaper in Europe, especially in Paris. Like, 20% cheaper! That’s a huge difference. But I’m not planning a trip to Paris anytime soon, so that wasn’t helpful.
But, I did learn some important things about what makes these bags so special. They’re made really well, with lots of attention to detail. And they’re designed to last a long time and always look good. Plus, they hold their value, so people consider them a good investment. But that also means that if they’re not in good condition, they lose a lot of value. So, if I was going to remake one, I had to make sure it looked perfect.
I gathered all my crafting supplies and got to work. I decided to use some old leather I had lying around. I found a template, and started to cut the leather into the shape of each piece. Sewing the pieces together was the hardest part. It took forever, and I had to redo some parts a few times, but eventually, it started to look like a bag!
I added the details, like the metal logo and the chain strap. Those were tricky too, but I managed to find some similar-looking things at a craft store.
After a lot of hard work, my bag was finally done! It wasn’t exactly like the real YSL College Bag, but it was pretty close. And I was super proud of myself for making it. It might not be as perfect as the real thing, but it’s special to me because I made it myself. Plus, I saved a ton of money! Now I can rock my “YSL” bag without breaking the bank.
It is not a YSL bag, but it looks like a YSL bag. That’s all I care about.
This little adventure also tells me why those real bags are so pricey. It’s not just about the name, but also all that hard work, good materials, and careful making that goes into them.
Would I do it again? Maybe! It was a lot of work, but it was also a lot of fun. And now I have a cool bag that’s kind of like a YSL, but totally unique because I made it. Who knows, maybe I’ll start a whole new trend of DIY designer bags!
