Alright, so here’s the deal. I saw this thing online, some fancy bag called the “Remake Yves Saint Laurent YSL JUNE BOX BAG Quote”. Sounds like a mouthful, right? I thought, “Why not try making one myself?” So I did.
First, I gotta say, these luxury brands, they use some smooth leather. So, I went to the shop, looked for something similar. Not the exact same, obviously, gotta keep it, you know, unique. Found some decent leather, felt nice and sturdy. Then came the hard part – figuring out the shape and size.
This YSL bag, it’s called a “box bag” for a reason. It’s like a little box with a flap on the front. I got my ruler and started measuring, cutting out cardboard pieces, trying to get that boxy shape right. Lots of trial and error, I tell ya. A lot of discarded cardboard pieces on my work table. But eventually, I got a pattern I was happy with.
Next up, cutting the leather. Now, that was a bit nerve-wracking. Leather ain’t cheap, and I didn’t wanna mess it up. Took a deep breath, marked out the pattern on the leather, and carefully cut along the lines with my cutter. Steady hand, steady hand… that’s what I kept telling myself. And it worked! Got all the pieces cut out, no major mishaps.
Then, the sewing. Oh boy, the sewing. This bag has this “pivoting CASSANDRE closure,” which is basically a fancy way of saying it has a cool metal clasp on the front. Getting that right took some doing. I used a strong thread, stitched all around the edges, reinforcing it here and there. Lots of hours bent over my sewing, with my old machine chugging along.
- Leather search: Spent an afternoon at the local shop, hunting for the right material.
- Pattern making: Cardboard, ruler, scissors, and a whole lot of patience. Ended up with a decent pattern after a few tries.
- Leather cutting: Marked the pattern, took a deep breath, and cut. No turning back now!
- Sewing marathon: My trusty old sewing machine got quite the workout. Stitched and stitched until my fingers were sore.
- The clasp: This was the trickiest part. Making it look good and work right took some serious effort.
But, after hours of work, lots of thread, and maybe a few accidental needle pricks, I finally finished my YSL June Box Bag remake! It’s not an exact replica, of course. It has my own touch to it, you know? A bit rough around the edges, maybe, but it’s got character. It’s a reminder that you don’t need to spend a fortune to have something nice. You can make it yourself, put your own heart and soul into it. It is the opposite of an investment. It is a purchase.

Maybe this will inspire some of you to try making your own version. Or maybe not. Either way, it was a fun project, and I learned a lot along the way. I heard that you could sell it later for a much greater price. This sounds pretty dubious to me, but who knows. And who knows, maybe when you are young you want to be different, this bag might just do that. They also said that if you buy one of these bags, and you don’t like it, you can send it back. For free.
